Version 1.1 of the summer race series rules is now available here.
This set of rules have been written to remove any ambiguity in the way that races organised by Snowsport South are run. It is intended that this document is a living document that will evolve as situations arise and clarifications are sought by team managers and race officials.
The points awarded towards the end of season ranking are as follows:
Timed Race: 1st = 25, 2nd = 20, 3rd = 19, 4th = 18, 5th = 17 etc... (no points awarded if racer does not record a valid time)
Duals: 1 point per win (1 point each for a draw)
The end of season points are calculated as a racer's best 4 results + 1% of any additional results (as a tie breaker). This is the same as saying that it's just best 4, but that the total will be used in the case of a tie to determine the ranking.
There will be 3 Winter Series races taking place in the new year. These are entered directly with the organising club. Please contact them via your club rep.You cannot enter via the website.

The race season is nearly upon us and most of us will be asked to volunteer at one or more of the races coming up in our region. Usually the reason people do not volunteer is they are unsure what the jobs entail and they think they won't be able to do the role. To address this Bromley are hosting a SSE Level 1 Official Course on Saturday 2nd April 2011 at Bromley Ski Slope. There is a nominal fee for attending of £10 per individual (this includes a hot lunch) and £5 if you are a Bromley member as our club are subsidising the course for our members.
I would be grateful if you could please forward the attached flyer to all your members and encourage parents of racers to attend as this will hopefully benefit your clubs when the race season begins and volunteers are required.
If any interested people can contact me to book their place - places will be limited due to space so please book early. I have spoken to SSE and these courses are not run frequently as they only have one available coach to run them so this might be the only opportunity this season.
thank you very much
regards Sue Vale Bromley Race Secretary

In the age group categories, points are calculated by taking each racer's best 4 results, along with 1% of any other results. This was agreed several years ago as a way of tie breaking when points may otherwise have been tied.
The Snowsport South A Team came third overall from the 17 teams taking part !!! They won through the group stage having lost their first race on a false start but after that they were basically flawless with some awesome starts and changeovers. In the first knockout race they beat Wales A who were one of the favourites with a number of very low seeded racers. They then lost the semi final to a very strong midlands team (who were unlucky to lose the final) before cruising through the third fourth play-off to win the third place medals. The team were in order; Peter Davies, Peter Calvert, Chris Reader, Chris Evans, Ellen Hathway, Hannah Bozier and Graham Nayler. Best Regards, Brian Davis
Neil from Racer Ready will be at the Christchurch race this weekend taking photos. The photos will be available on the day from £7.50 each or a CD of all the pictures for each racer for £15.
May 8th at Welwyn Garden City Ski Centre will see the first of our Aosta Valley promotions. The race will based around the standard regional race and details of all the events can be found on the LSERSA website. www.lsersa.org
James Gambrill representing the Aosta Valley will be there to hand out special cups and Bartletts will be adding to the prizes, along with Sage Physio, Bodyfactor and Snow & Rock.
Spot prizes awarded during the day will be provided by the Aosta Valley (and maybe Citroen Cars)
Prizes will be presented by Ed Drake (provided he is back from training) plus a special guest (who used to be a super racer).
All day BBQ will be available.
Hopefully we will also be offering the possibility of a holiday in the Aosta Valley for those who get the most points over the summer series in all competitions.
Do spread the word as all are welcome on what we hope will be the first of several fantastic races.
I would appreciate it if you could put the race details or a link on your websites.
regards,
Sandy

Hi all,
On Sunday 7th Feb is the Winter Series race at Aldershot. Unfortunately it is also the Freesyle training session for Snowsports South Freestyle Squad. Please note this is the only calender clash of the 2010 season. Also Squad freestyle sessions held at Bracknell will be on the first Sunday of every month. We are still in talks with The Snow Center for the next snow session.
Darren, Chairman Snowsports South
If you go to Racer Ready site, you can find out about the Olympic Auction. This just another way we can help support our athletes next month at the Winter olympics in Vancover.

Cheers Darren Chairman Snowsports South
Well done to all who raced on Saturday despite the weather. Nice to see Southampton and Snowtrax joined together for snowboarding afterwards.
The Next Winter Series Race is on Saturday 14th November at Snowtrax. Start time 8.00. Slope open from 7.30. park down the bottom of slope.
Big well done to all SRSA racers that turned up on a very cold morning at Brentwood for the tri region yearly race meet. The D team came 3rd in the plate competition, runners up were the E team only to be beaten by SRSA F. In the main event for the trophy SRSA B were runners up. Today has seen one if not the best SRSA teams across the board in a long time and has shown the other regions what we are about. Again well done to all. Big thanks to Janet for the thankless job of organising the teams and also thanks to Steve Trotter for sorting out the race tops.

The fastest female for the season was Ellen Hathway and the fastest male was Dan Curtis.
Just to let you all know that the young girl who had an accident at Southampton on Saturday is Ok. No serious injury just badly bruised and sore.
On the race on Sunday there was talk by a few that it was Southampton\'s timing gear that broke. It was not, it was the regions wireless timing gear that broke. If it had not been for Southampton Club the whole day would have been finished after the first timed run. So thank you to Southampton for sorting at short notice.
Also thank you to the manager of SAC who let the kids on the ringos for free to appease the wait.
Also a personal thank you to all the managers and committee who made the right decisions on the day, thanks for the support.
Darren Schmidt
SRSA Chairman

This year we will be running fun team races, where all clubs will be mixed together. the aim being to make sure the new and little ones get to race in a team. Rather than Team a,b,c,d,etc we would like you to come up with a group of names we can use instead. The Club competiton is still on for A Teams only. This year for the Overall season winner male and female there will be cash prizes at the end of season.Any news at your club let any of the committee members know and we will post it on the web site.
Darren
Firstly, apologies for the delays in opening race entries this season. There have been some extra delays setting up PayPal that we had not expected. As such, entries are opening with payment by post/cheque for the moment - with online payments hopefully becoming available for later in the season.
If you were registered with the old website, you should receive an email in the next few hours containing your new password for the SRSA website (if you don't get it, check your junk mail folder). You can change the password to something easier to remember on the website using the "edit details" link. Obviously people change their email over time, so if you know someone who has not received this, please point them in the direction of the SRSA website so they can reregister.
I hope that the entry system is straightforward to use. Once you've logged on, go to the "enter races" page where you can add new competitors/enter this year's races. Once you've entered all the races you want to for now, click "Create invoice for the above entries". You'll then be able to print this invoice ("Print Invoice") and send it, along with a cheque for the correct amount (with the invoice number written on the back), to the address given.
Once we receive the money, your entry will be confirmed and appear on the entry list for that race.
If you have any problems or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me (communications@srsa.org.uk).
Regards,
Pete Calvert
SRSA Communications Officer

This year changes are being made to the club team competitions at the SRSA league races, and a new scratch team competition is being introduced.
Each affiliated club will be allowed to enter one team in the 11 and over category and one team in the under 11’s. These teams will compete in a club knockout competition.
All racers (including those who have been in a club team) can also enter the scratch team competition. Racers will be asked to indicate whether they wish to be included in this when completing their online entry. The teams will be drawn according to the results in the individual runs earlier in the day so that they are as even as possible. The competition will be run as a simple knockout.
